POSITION STATEMENTS

WE HAVE BEEN MISLED AND UNDERSERVED BY OUR LEADERS LINKING LAWLESS TO

HOMELESS BEHAVIOR.

If elected to our Curry County Board of Commissioners, I pledge to support Curry County and State Legislature efforts to:

1. Differentiate between the “lawless” and “homeless” populations within Curry County and advocate this difference through the office of BOC in tandem with the other Commissioners and community leaders.

2. Educate and reinforce within our local community that lawless behavior refers to a state of disorder or lack of adherence to established laws and regulations. Lawless behavior includes actions that violate legal norms, statutes, laws, regulations and can be manifest as criminal activities, civil disobedience, or disregard and distain for social order. The perpetrators of lawless behavior can exhibit a persistent capacity to both hurt those around them and themselves.

3. Widely promote through the office of BOC that homelessness points to the lack of stable, safe, affordable, and permanent residence for vulnerable community members. It can include individuals, families, or groups (i.e.: Veterans) who do not have a place to live. The homeless often dwell in temporary shelters, on the streets, or in substandard housing.

4. Since lawless behavior in our communities is many times manifest during periods of social unrest, political instability, economic failures, lack of both education and self-awareness, a social firestorm ignites when a community is also constrained with weak law enforcement. Therefore, I pledge to make our community safer by funding our local law enforcement (Sheriff and Local Police) to combat lawlessness in Curry County.

5. On behalf of our homeless community, broadly communicate the basic need for suitable housing for all socio-economic groups within our County. As well, advocate for supportive physical and mental health resources essential for so many of our homeless friends, family members and County residents. And serve as an activist in developing employment and social welfare programs for our vulnerable neighbors.

OUR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, SMALL BUSINESS SUPPORT, TOURISM AND ATTRACTION MARKETING NEED A STRONG BUSINESS PLAN TO BRING SUSTAINED WEALTH TO OUR COUNTY

If elected to our Curry County Board of Commissioners, I pledge to support Curry County to build and execute a stronger economic development business plan:

My political platform prioritizes the enhancement of tourism, marketing and advertising, plus improved community development. We believe that investing in these areas will not only boost the economy but also create a more vibrant and thriving community.

To improve tourism, we propose focusing on promoting the unique attractions and cultural offerings of our region. By implementing targeted marketing campaigns and strategic partnerships, we can attract more visitors and increase revenue for local businesses. Improvements and developments in our county’s event gathering areas, such as the Curry County Fairgrounds and waterfront Ports, through strategic planning and investing in new development along with creative marketing and advertising can be center stage for attracting more events and increasing the tourism focus in our county.

In addition, we recognize the importance of effective marketing and advertising in showcasing the best of our county. I plan to support small businesses, local entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations by providing resources and assistance in promoting their products and services to a wider audience. An example of what we can do is create an intuitive online resource center following the lead of other successful Oregon communities.

Furthermore, I am committed to investing in community development initiatives that will enhance the overall quality of life for our residents. This includes revitalizing public spaces, supporting affordable housing initiatives, and promoting sustainable development practices. An example of this work would be recognizing the endless efforts and support in community improvement and development by the wonderful folks that operate the non-profit organization, Gold Beach Main Street. Please check out their website to learn more about this amazing organization, www.GoldBeachMainStreet.com

Engaging with local businesses is essential for fostering a strong and collaborative community. We will prioritize partnerships with local businesses to amplify our marketing and advertising efforts while supporting the growth of small enterprises.

My approach will involve:

1. Collaboration Opportunities: We will seek opportunities to collaborate with local businesses, organizations and non-profits, showcasing their products, services, and unique offerings through our marketing initiatives. This will not only provide exposure for the businesses but also contribute to the overall appeal of our community.

2. Co-Marketing Campaigns: Implementing co-marketing campaigns with local businesses will allow us to combine resources and reach a broader audience. By pooling efforts, we can create impactful promotional activities that benefit both the community and the participating businesses.

3. Resource Support: We are committed to providing resources and guidance to local businesses to enhance their digital marketing capabilities. This includes workshops, training sessions, and access to digital marketing tools to help them engage with a wider audience and thrive in the digital landscape.

Through these initiatives, we can aim to build a supportive environment where local businesses can flourish, contribute to the county’s vibrancy, and collectively elevate the marketing and advertising efforts of our region.

In conclusion, by prioritizing these areas, we aim to create a more inclusive, dynamic, and
prosperous community for all. Together, we can build a stronger and more vibrant future for our region.

SENATE BILL 80 WRONGLY BURDENS CURRY COUNTY RESIDENTS WITH THE COST OF WILDFIRE HAZARDS MITIGATION

If elected to our Curry County Board of Commissioners, I pledge to support Curry County and State Legislature efforts to revise Senate Bill 80 to highlight both Federal and State Forest mismanagement plus their responsibilities for wildfires which have destroyed massive Curry County Forest areas. Correspondingly, Senate Bill 80 should require the State and Federal Forest management agencies be burdened with the massive cost for creating “defensible spaces” around the hazardous Federal and State mis-managed forest areas. As well, these same forest management agencies should be required to reimburse the impacted communities and homeowners’ total costs to “fire harden” neighborhoods and homes in wildfire high risk areas.

Finally, I support our State Legislative Delegation’s efforts to revise the Wildfire Hazard Map to
reflect a more detailed and accurate assessment of our south coast area.

LEFT UNCHECKED, THE CURRENT FEDERAL PLAN TO DEPLOY OFFSHORE FLOATING WIND ENERGY TURBINES IN OUR COASTAL WATERS WILL FOR GENERATIONS TO COME DAMAGE OUR CURRY COUNTY FISHING AND TOURISM ECONOMY.

After speaking with countless Curry County residents regarding the planned deployment of a Federally
proposed massive Offshore Floating Wind Energy Factory, I am convinced the vast majority of our
neighbors are both stressed and distraught regarding the imperilment of our Coastal life-style, the
collapse of our fishing and tourism based economy plus the inevitable increase in the cost of energy and
our taxes. This Federal plan must not go forward unrestrained. If elected to our Curry County Board of
Commissioners, I pledge:

1. To tell the Truth. Uncontrolled, this proposed Federal program will soon, and for many decades to come, increase electric utility costs for all home and business owners plus increase tax rates for all citizens.

2. My vow to Curry County is that any widespread replacement of electric utility grade technology deployed under the auspices of our Curry County government must do no harm and work as well as the legacy electrical utility technology being replaced. Further, I vow that any new electric utility grade technology also must be an efficient solution.  Being efficient in our current situation requires that any wind-power turbine replacement technology must reduce cost, rather than trigger a substantial perpetual cost increase for homes and business alike.  If any proposed utility-grade wind power turbine technology solution does not reduce electrical rates for users and shield taxpayers from being burdened by massive-forever subsidies to energy conglomerates, then the proposed technology solution fails from the start.

3. I will justly use my personal power and Commissioner authority such that no widespread energy technology deployment will happen on my watch which disrupts and deteriorates our Curry County economy, wellbeing, and the lives of our neighbors. Instead, working with Curry County leaders and our State Legislature, I will send the energy industry engineers, technocrats, bureaucrats, and investors back to their “drawing boards” to work smarter and harder in their design, development, and deployment of utility-grade sustainable energy solutions.

4. I will consider and support only sustainable energy-industry solutions for Curry County which clearly meet the highest standards of technology effectiveness and efficiency.

MEASURE 110 HAS FAILED CURRY COUNTY AND
THE MAJORITY OF OUR NEIGHBORS SUPPORT CHANGE.

If elected to our Curry County Board of Commissioners, I pledge to support Curry County and State Legislative efforts to:

1. Maintain cannabis taxes for expanded prevention, treatment, and recovery, plus improve oversight and accountability within the growing, manufacturing, distribution, and use of cannabis.

2. Prohibit in any amount the distribution and use of hard drugs (IE: fentanyl, meth, cocaine, and heroin) in public places.

3. Make distribution and sale of lethal drugs in any amount such as fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin a felony crime.

4. Require addiction and behavioral treatment for convicted users and distributors.

5. Prioritize diversion, treatment, and recovery over prosecution and jail for user-offenders.

Measure 110 Education Overview (Drug Decriminalization and Treatment):
Measure 110 is a ballot measure that passed in Oregon in November 2020. It focuses on drug decriminalization and shifts the approach from a punitive model to a public health-based model.

Key Points:

  • It decriminalizes the possession of small amounts of certain drugs, including cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines.

  • The measure emphasizes treatment and harm reduction services rather than criminal penalties.

  • Funding that was previously allocated for law enforcement and incarceration is redirected toward addiction treatment and support services.

THE LACK OF AFFORDABLE WORKFORCE HOUSING THROUGHOUT CURRY COUNTY INHIBITS
ECONONIC HEALTH, THE WELL BEING OF OUR FAMILIES, AND THE GROWTH OF OUR

COMMUNITIES.

If elected to our Curry County Board of Commissioners, I pledge to support Curry County and State Legislative efforts to:

1. Create a public/private partnership between our county/city leaders, the workforce residential housing developers, landowners, investors, and employers to streamline and make more predictable the residential workforce housing development cycle.

2. Work with Cities throughout Curry County to modernize and simplify the impact of System Development Charges (SDC).

3. Enhance the success factors for our Curry County private sector employers by increasing the inventory of affordable workforce housing for employees.

4. Convene a cross-discipline workshop composed of leadership within both the private and public sectors to identify actionable policy recommendations to expand the volume of workforce housing, both for rent and suitable for purchase.

5. In tandem with our Curry County, State, and Federal Legislative Delegation, propose a priority agenda composed of possible local, state, and federal initiatives for legislative review and consideration, 2024-2026.
